Skincare Acids
Acids, commonly known as hydroxy acids, are an essential ingredient within an array of skincare products. They are frequently utilized as exfoliators to remove dead skin cells on the epidermis, and can also penetrate deeper into the dermis to stimulate collagen and elastin, and fade discoloration.
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are groups of naturally occurring, water soluble acids, and are often used topically to treat dry skin, wrinkles, or acne. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) are oil soluble, making them great for combating clogged pores and helping to regulate the production of sebum.
Some of the most common AHAs found in skin care are glycolic and lactic acids, and the most common BHA is salicylic acid. Here is a breakdown of each acid, along with some product recommendations to help you get started in including them in your regimen.
Glycolic Acid
Glycolic Acid is popularly found in everyday skincare products such as cleansers and toners. It exfoliates skin, reduces fine lines, prevents acne, fades dark spots, increases skin thickness, and evens out skin skin tone and texture. It penetrates the deepest, which makes it effective at stimulating collagen production.

Kojic Acid
Kojic acid is derived from a mushroom fungi during the fermentation process. It penetrates deep into the skin to limit the production of melanin, and prevent future hyperpigmentation. It also works to lighten current pigmentation. It is safe for all skin tones.
